Good & Evil

God loves belief, obedience and goodness and hates disbelief, disobedience and evil.

And whomsoever Allah wills to guide, He opens His breast to Islam, and whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. (Quran 6:125)

"Carry on doing (good) deeds, for everybody will find easy to do such deeds as will lead him to his destined place for which he has been created. So, he who is destined to be among the happy (in the Hereafter), will find it easy to do the deeds characteristic of such people." (Hadith)

Evil, injustice and wrong is not to be attributed to God but to our own wrong doings.

Whatever good reaches you, is from Allah, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourselves (Quran 4:79)

"I respond to Your call (O Allah!), and I am obedient to Your Orders, all Good is in Your Hands, and evil is not attributable to You, I am by You, and to You, Blessed are You and Exalted." (Hadith)

"And we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of ourselves and from our wrong deeds." (Hadith)

Belief in Qadar does not provide an excuse for Mankind to sin or abandon what they are obligated to do.

One day the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was sitting with a wooden stick in his hand with which he was scratching the ground. He raised his head and said, "There is none of you, but has his place assigned either in the Fire or in Paradise." They (the Companions) inquired, "O Allah’s Messenger! Why should we carry on doing good deeds, shall we depend (upon Qadar) and give up work?" The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "No, carry on doing good deeds, for everyone will find it easy (to do) such deeds that will lead him towards that for which he has been created". Then he Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÓáã  recited the verse: "As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, and believes in the best (i.e. that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah or a reward from Allah). We will make smooth for him the path of Ease (goodness) (Quran 92:5-7)" (Hadith)

Illness and trials are a means of purification and mercy for believers.

Give glad tidings to the patient, those who when afflicted with a calamity, say: "Truly, to Allah we belong and truly to Him will we return." It is those who will be awarded blessings and mercy from their Lord; and it is those who are the guided ones. (Quran 2:155-156)

"There is nothing (in the form of trouble) that touches the believer, even the pricking of a thorn, except that Allah Decrees a good for him or effaces one of his sins because of that." (Hadith)

God Permits afflictions in this world in His Infinite Knowledge and Wisdom, which we cannot comprehend, which will be fully compensated for on Judgment Day.

We shall make a trial for you with evil and with good, and to Us you will be returned. (Quran 21:34-35)

He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned. (Quran 21:23)

"Those who are most afflicted among the people are the Prophets, then the best, then the (next) best. One is afflicted in accordance with (the strength of) his Deen. If his Deen is firm, his affliction is hard, and if his Deen is weak, his affliction is light. Indeed, one would be so much subjected to adversity until he walks among the people with any sins." (Hadith)

Evil is caused by placing things in inappropriate places unjustly.

Evil (sins and disobedience to Allah) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds), that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah and begging His Pardon). (Quran 30:41)

Muslims do not believe in "Original (inherited) Sin" but believe that Adam and Eve were forgiven for their sin, and that all children are born sinless and upon a pure innate disposition.

They (Adam and Eve) said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us, and do not bestow upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be amongst the losers." (Quran 7:23)

"An infant is born according to his (true) nature (Fitrah). It is his parents who make him into a Jew or a Christian; just like a she-camel gives birth to its young ones. Do you find any deficiency in their limbs (when the animals are born)? Yet you cut their ears (i.e. brand them with a mark of ownership after birth). They (Companions) said: "What is your opinion about him who dies in infancy?" Thereupon Allah's Apostle صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "It is Allah Alone Who knows best what they would be doing." (Hadith)

Satan and his armies of evil Jinn try hard to change the pure innate disposition of Man into evil disbelief and God has warned us not to follow their inclinations.

"I have created My servants Hunafaa’ (possessing a natural inclination to know and worship God), but it is the evil devils (Shayateen) who turn them away from the right Religion, and make unlawful what has been declared lawful for them, and command them to associate partners with Me, although I have brought down no proof to justify that." (Hadith)

O children of Adam! Let not Satan deceive you, as he got your parents (i.e. Adam and Eve) out of Paradise (Quran 7:27)

Evil-doers use their own intention and power to commit crimes and therefore deserve condemnation and punishment for them (either in this world, if they are caught, or on Judgment Day).

Those who took partners (in worship) with Allah will say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have taken partners (in worship) with Him, and we would not have forbidden anything (against His Will)." Likewise belied those who were before them, (they argued falsely with Allah’s Messengers), till they tasted of Our Wrath. Say: "Have you any knowledge (proof) that you can produce before us? Verily, you follow nothing but guesses and you do nothing but lie." (Quran 6:148)

"Allah has fixed the very portion of adultery in which a man will indulge. There would be no escape from it. The adultery of the eye is the lustful look and the adultery of the ears is listening to voluptuous (song or talk) and the adultery of the tongue is licentious speech and the adultery of the hand is the lustful grip (embrace) and the adultery of the feet is to walk (to the place) where he intends to commit adultery and the heart yearns and desires which he may or may not choose to put into effect." (Hadith)

It is incorrect to believe that Satan (evil and darkness) compete equally with God (goodness and light), such is the Shirk that Zoroastrians believe (and the Buddhist concept of Yin and Yang).

"Every Nation has its "Magians" (Majoos), and the "Magians" of my Ummah (Nation) are those that say there is no Qadar (i.e. the Qadariyyah sect). If they fall sick, do not visit them, and if they die, do not attend their funerals." (Hadith)
